Canine Infections Respiratory
Disease (Kennel cough)
Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (CIRD) is a familiar syndrome in dogs. Although it is misleadingly termed as “kennel cough” (a nightmare for us!!!), in reality, it can easily spread wherever dogs mix. All dogs that come into regular contact with other dogs, such as on their daily walks, at a friend’s house, or in a dog-friendly cafe, are all at risk of this disease. Unfortunately, there is a common misconception that only dogs in kennels are at risk (MSD Animal Health).
A vaccination against kennel cough is required at Hafod Y Bryn, all kennel cough vaccinations should be done at least 3 weeks prior to arrival. Alternatively, your dog can receive the injectable canine Bordetella vaccine. This is a great option for dogs who will not tolerate the intranasal Bordetella vaccination.
